Hi everyone! I made this tumblr, because I wanted to find a way to reach out to people who suffer from anxiety disorders, depression, and/or various mental illnesses. I use this tumblr to post happy inspirational quotes/pictures, offer advice, and answer any questions you may have regarding mental health issues, because I understand them all too well. Please, do not hesitate to ask for help, no matter what the mental health issue is you are suffering from is, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Hi, I'm 14 and I have anxiety. It holds me back from doing so much. I hate feeling like this. I feel like I can't live my life. Do you know anyway to make this feeling go away? please?

Hi girl! First of all, let me say that I am sorry that you’re going through this. I have dealt with anxiety for almost 5 years now (I’m 18).  People will probably tell you that you just have to “snap out of it”, but the fact that it is all in your mind does not minimize the severity of it by any means. Your mind is extremely powerful.  You can convince your mind of any physical and/or emotional symptoms just by thinking about it too much. Anxiety stems from something in the back of your mind that is putting you in fight or flight mode. There is no quick fix that will instantly make these awful feelings go away, but by taking small steps you can bring yourself to overcoming it.

Firstly, cutting any caffeine out of your diet, and eating correctly makes all the difference. I used to drink soda all the time and drink iced coffee, both of these things increase your heart rate and create the start of anxious feelings

Also, by using exercise you can keep your mind and body focused on something else, and maybe picking up a hobby can keep your mind thinking of other things. I know when I would start to get anxious feelings I would call a friend, go for a jog, do anything to take my mind off of how I was feeling at that moment. Meditation sounds lame, but it also helps eliviate any anxious feelings. The goal is to not try to get rid of anxiety altogether, but to find ways to clear your mind when that feeling occurs.

If taking these steps don’t help you out, talking to a guidence counselor at school or meeting with an outside counselor can really help. In my time dealing with anxiety I have done both, and they both gave me guidence and advice in different ways that still help me to this day.
